「鷹擊-62」是大陸第三代反艦飛彈，射程450至550公里，其改進型的射程能達到600至650公里。大陸只要在東邊沿岸部署該型飛彈，就能控制從東部海岸線到第一島鏈之間的大部分水域，換言之，只要日本海上自衛隊進入東海，就已經進入「鷹擊-62」的射程範圍內。

在北京天安門廣場舉行的九三閱兵中，受校的岸艦飛彈閱兵方隊展示了大陸首款遠程地對艦巡弋飛彈「鷹擊-62」，該飛彈與大陸之前研發的鷹擊-6系列飛彈相比，在射程上有了較大程度的提高，已達到了一般國際水準。

此外，「鷹擊-62」的出口型「C-602」，其射程雖被限制在280公里，但這個射程已經足夠讓第三世界國家的海軍具備很強的打擊能力。據悉，中國已經向伊朗和巴基斯坦出口了該型飛彈技術。目前，委內瑞拉、埃及和印尼也十分感興趣。

「鷹擊-62」的彈體又細又輕，遠程戰略轟炸機「轟-6K」可攜帶6枚，而052C飛彈驅逐艦則能裝載8枚。由於射程實際可達300公里以上，極大強化了大陸海、空軍遠程威攝力量與持續打擊能力。
